Year 2 is a fun year where children can start to learn in more depth and refine their skills. Year 2 is the final year of KS1 and of the 'Infants'.
The children are encouraged to grow in confidence and independence. Teacher Assessment is carried out both formally and informally to give an end of Key stage level in Year 2 for Reading, Writing and Maths. This does include statutory SAT's papers and tasks but this is done in a relaxed and informal way.
Teacher Assessment carries on all year and SATs papers are carried out in small groups over a period of weeks in May. These are nothing to worry about and are used to confirm the teacher's assessments of the children. In fact, the children often comment on how they really liked that 'lesson' as they enjoyed having their own special booklet to write in.
To avoid any possible stress or anxiety the children are not aware that they are doing 'tests' but just that they are doing special work that they should try their best at.
