Year Two

Year 2 is a fun year where children can start to learn in more depth and refine their skills. Year 2 is the final year of KS1 and of the 'Infants'.

The children are encouraged to grow in confidence and independence. Teacher Assessment is carried out both formally and informally to give an end of Key stage level in Year 2 for Reading, Writing and Maths. Teacher Assessment carries on all year and SATs papers are carried out in small groups over a period of weeks in May. These are nothing to worry about and are used to confirm the teacher's assessments of the children. In fact, the children often comment on how they really liked that 'lesson' as they enjoyed having their own special booklet to write in.

To avoid any possible stress or anxiety the children are not aware that they are doing 'tests' but just that they are doing special ‘Secret Agent Training’ work that they should try their best at.

Reading - we expect children to be reading regularly at home: the benefits, both academic and social, are huge! Children are welcome to borrow books from our class or school library. PE days are on fortnightly Monday afternoons and Wednesday morning with Montagu. Please ensure that children arrive in school with their trainers, spare socks and when it is colder, navy blue jogging bottoms and navy sweatshirts

Forest School days are Tuesday afternoons but dates will be informed via the newsletter and email. Please ensure that the children have wellies, waterproof trousers, waterproof coats and when it is colder, gloves, scarves and hats.

Your child can change their books on Thursdays by placing their signed reading record and books in Mrs Pitts' tray. We will do our best to remind them but do please give gentle reminders too!
