Assessment & Results

We strive to support our pupils in achieving the highest possible standards. A school's performance is measured by overall achievement of its pupils. Achievement is a combination of both pupils' attainment (in relation to age-related expectations) and progress (how far they move from their personal starting point).

We are proud of the standards that pupils at St Mary's achieve. By the end of Year 6 (end of Key Stage 2) the attainment of our children is consistently above national average values and pupils, typically, make very good progress (above / well above national averages). 

Statutory Assessment Outcomes for 2023    

The results detailed in these pages (2023) relate to the most recent statutory assessments. There were no statutory assessment processes completed in English schools in  2020 or 2021 (due to the pandemic). 

End of Key Stage 2 (Year 6)

Year 6 pupils are tested/ assessed against the assessment criteria for the National Curriculum. Pupil attainment is recorded in relation to the new ‘expected standard’ for the end of Key Stage 2. Pupils sit tests in reading, GPS (Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling) and maths; these tests produce a ‘scaled score’ (with 100 representing the ‘expected standard’ and 110+ representing a 'High Score'). Pupils’ writing attainment is based upon Teacher Assessment and pupils are required to meet all the assessment criteria in order to be judged as meeting the standard. A higher standard ‘greater depth’ assessment can be awarded in writing.

End of Key Stage 1 (Year 2)

Year 2 pupils are tested /assessed against the assessment criteria for the National Curriculum. Pupil attainment is recorded in relation to the new ‘expected standard’ for the end of Key Stage 1. Pupils sit tests in reading, GPS (Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling) and maths; these tests produce a ‘scaled score’ (with 100 representing the ‘expected standard’). The outcomes of the test are not reported to the DFE this year but are used to inform the Teacher Assessment judgement made for each pupil.

Year 1 Phonics screening check

91% of pupils achieved the required standard (National 2022 was 97%)

EYFS Profile (Reception Class)

75% of pupils achieved the Good Level of Development (GLD) measure (National 2022 was 67%).
